We listened to consumers and developed a technical solution to bring the free Ovi Maps and navigation experience to the Nokia E71 and Nokia E66 - however technical limitations prevented us from making premium content available on those devices.
We recommend that you make use of AGPS to speed up the connection time for your GPS. AGPS uses your Mobile Internet connection to connect to a Nokia server that tells your device which GPS satellites it will be able to connect to, substantially reducing the time taken to get a GPS fix.
In case you use a device with integrated GPS receiver, please have a look into the manual of your device on the location of the GPS receiver. When using the GPS receiver, hold it upright in your hand at an angle of approximately 45 degrees, with a clear view of the sky. Make sure that your hand does not cover the GPS receiver. The time it takes to establish a GPS connection may vary between a few seconds and several minutes. Establishing a GPS connection in the car may take longer.
Note: The GPS operations take their power from the battery. Using an internal GPS receiver or a Bluetooth connection to an external GPS receiver may drain the battery faster.
If no satellite signal is found, consider the following:
For External GPS Devices: If Bluetooth is not already switched on, you will first be asked whether you want to switch on Bluetooth. Your mobile device will then start searching for devices available via Bluetooth technology in your surrounding area. From the result list displayed, choose the correct entry to connect to your external GPS receiver.
You may be asked for a pass code to connect to your GPS receiver. Although this pass code is “0000” in most cases, please have a look into the manual of your GPS receiver to find out what the correct pass code is.
It may take a few minutes for the GPS to track you and for your position to be shown on the map. Remember you need a GPS connection to show your current position.
Please note: Due to technical limitations, Share Location and the premium services(e.g. Weather/Michelin guides) are not available for Maps 3.03 on the E71 and E66.
We do not recommend downgrading to earlier versions of the Maps application as many of the improvements to both the Maps application and map data will not be available.
If you have Maps 3.03 (or later) installed on your device and you wish to download to Maps 3.01, simply uninstall Ovi Maps from the Application Manager on your device.
If you wish to downgrade from other Maps versions there are two ways:
The first method can be used if you wish to return to an earlier version of the application installed on your device. This is done through a soft reset:
If the above steps did not leave you with the application version you intended there is an alternative method of downgrading. For this method you must have the .sis installation file for the earlier version. If you have this file:
Once you have downgraded the application, start the Maps application briefly to recreate the file structures before using Nokia Ovi Suite (PC) or Nokia Map Loader (Mac) to transfer the map data to your device.
Most Nokia devices that are compatible with Maps come with an Internal GPS so an external GPS receiver is not required. You can check if you device has internal GPS from your devices user guide or alternatively from www.nokia.com/maps - devices compatible with Maps will state if they have GPS included.
For devices that do not have Internal GPS receiver a external receiver will be required for turn by turn navigation.
To use Maps on such a mobile device, you need to connect an external GPS receiver to your mobile device via Bluetooth. If Bluetooth is not already switched on, you will first be asked whether you want to switch on Bluetooth. Your mobile device will then start searching for devices available via Bluetooth in your surrounding area. From the result list displayed, choose the correct entry to connect to your external GPS receiver.
You may be asked for a pass code to connect to your GPS receiver. Although this pass code is 0000 in most cases, please have a look into the manual of your GPS receiver to find out what the correct pass code is.
It may take a few minutes for the GPS to track you and for your position to be shown on the map. Remember you need a GPS connection to show your current position.

Please Note: Switching between Online and Offline mode in Maps will not prevent data charges through the user of Positioning settings such as AGPS and WiFi/Network positioning. These will need to be turned off in the Positioning Settings on your device. Please see your device manual for more information/
