  • How do I restore factory settings on my Nokia device?

Select Menu > Settings > Phone > Phone mgmt. > Factory settings.

You can reset some of the settings to their original values. To do this, you need the lock code, which is 12345 by default unless you have changed it before.

After resetting, the device may take a longer time to power on. Documents and files are unaffected.

  • After a software update, the device is very slow and the power gets drained fast, what can I do?

This problem has been discovered after an upgrade with the following devices:

  • Nokia X6-00 version 20.0.005
  • Nokia 5800 XpressMusic version 50.0.005
  • Nokia 5230 version 12.0.089, fixed on version 20.0.005.

It appears as if there are a lot of preinstalled applications in the memory card. This problem will be fixed in the next version of the device software.

To repair the problem on above versions:

  • Reboot the device by removing the battery.
  • If that does not help, restore the original factory settings by Menu > Settings > Phone > Phone mgmt. > Factory SettingsThe default lock code is 12345.

  • How to hard reset 5800 XpressMusic, without the lock code?

A hard reset can be performed with the usual method of typing in *#7370# and the lock code is needed.

If the lock code has changed, or the customer does not remember it, the following can be done to hard reset the device:

  1. Power off the device.
  2. Hold the two call keys (red and green) and the camera button, and proceed to power on the device, while holding the three keys (green, red and camera).
  3. Keep holding down the 3 keys until after the handshake screen.

A request for country should now be available, and the hard reset should be complete, without the lock code.  Keep in mind, the lock code still remains unchanged (it does not go back to the default 12345).

 The following settings are displayed:

  • Network mode (shown only if supported by the network service provider): Select which network to use. If you select Dual mode, the device uses the GSM or UMTS network automatically, according to the network parameters and the roaming agreements between the network service providers. If needed, contact your service provider for more details.
  • Operator selection: Select Automatic to set the device to search for and select one of the available networks, or Manual to manually select the network from a list of networks. If the connection to the manually selected network is lost, the device sounds an error tone and asks you to reselect a network. The selected network must have a roaming agreement with your home cellular network, that is, the network service provider whose SIM card is in your device.

Glossary: A roaming agreement is an agreement between two or more network service providers to enable the users of one service provider to use the services of other service providers.
